This natural attraction is known worldwide for its spectacular scenery. The combination of gentle glistening beauty and powerfully crashing waterfalls make it one of BC's top attractions. Numerous tour companies on the Sunshine Coast offer boat and air tours of the area.
Twice daily, high tides force an astonishing amount of water through the passage between the Sechelt and Jervis inlets. This natural spectacle draws kayakers from all over the world, who come to experience the thrill of these rapids, also known as the Sechelt rapids. Low tide at the rapids reveals a rich marine habitat, and the surrounding Skookumchuck Provincial Park has a network of scenic hiking trails.
This tiny hamlet near Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park on the Sunshine Coast is well known because of its status as a ghost town. Doriston got its start with a sawmill in 1912, and it was known mostly as a fishing village until its most famous permanent resident and mayor passed away a few years ago. A couple of the houses are occupied during the summer months, but Doriston is all but deserted for the rest of the year.
